About

Meet Alex

I’m Alex Blevins, a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and an honors graduate of the Hypnosis Motivation Institute (HMI), the nationally accredited college of hypnotherapy in Los Angeles. I hold HMI’s Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and its Associate of Occupational Studies in Mind-Body Psychology, both with honors, and I am a Certified Practitioner of Ericksonian Hypnosis.

My clinical foundation is the Kappasinian approach developed at HMI: a practical, structured model of how the mind learns, how it protects old patterns, and how it can be guided to accept new ones. It is grounded, direct, and built for results.

Where I Come From

I was born in Carlinville, Illinois, and raised in Macoupin County, a place of farm towns and coal country where people measure you by a simple standard: do you show up, do you do the work, and do you keep your word. I graduated from Gillespie High School and Blackburn College , and I carried those values with me to Los Angeles.

They still shape how I practice. I don’t sell overnight miracles. I tell you the truth about what change takes, I come prepared for every session, and I expect us both to put in the effort that real transformation requires.

That same upbringing carried me through a 20-year career in management, administration, leadership, and sales, including fourteen years leading high-performing teams for Fortune 500 companies. It also taught me to stand up for people: I once organized a union against significant opposition and negotiated fair contracts for the workers I served alongside. Leading people taught me what actually moves them: not pep talks, but clarity, accountability, and a plan that fits the person in front of you.

I am a Freemason, and its principles of fraternity, service, and moral integrity are part of how I live and work. I hold a bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Philosophy and Religion from Blackburn College, a master’s degree in Legal Studies, and I am currently pursuing licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist with a focus on addiction.

The Meaning of Pawo

Pawo is a Tibetan word meaning “one who is brave.” Chögyam Trungpa, founder of Shambhala, taught that there is a basic human wisdom capable of meeting the world’s problems, and that the path to it is one of warriorship: not aggression, but the courage to face your own mind honestly (Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior, 1984, p. 7).

That is the spirit of this work. Real change asks something of you. It asks you to stop negotiating with the patterns that keep you small and to meet them directly. My role is to give you the tools, the structure, and the support to do that.

How I Work

Every session is built on a clinical foundation and tailored to the person in the chair. Depending on your goals, our work may include:

  • Clinical hypnotherapy to reach the subconscious patterns behind habits, emotional reactions, and self-image.
  • Ericksonian hypnosis using indirect suggestion and metaphor for clients who respond best to a softer, conversational approach.
  • Guided imagery to rehearse new responses until they feel natural.
  • The Mental Bank method, a practical system for setting goals, building motivation, and training the subconscious to expect success.
  • Mindfulness training to build calm, focus, and self-awareness you can use between sessions.
  • Self-hypnosis so the change continues long after you leave.

For clients drawn to the spiritual dimension of this work, I also offer esoteric hypnotherapy. Here the clinical method stays the same, but the inner work draws on the traditions I have studied and practiced for years: Shambhala Buddhism, Gnosticism, and Hermeticism. This can include past-life regression, future progression, Reiki, and working with archetype and symbol to understand the deeper story your mind is telling.

Drawing on Celtic and Norse mysticism, I am also developing Ulfhednar Awakening, a course for men and women that integrates ancient wisdom with modern therapeutic practice to build resilience, personal power, and a deeper connection to one’s primal instincts and spiritual essence.

Who I Work With

I work with people who are done circling the same patterns: smokers and vapers ready to quit, people tired of stress and anxiety running their days, professionals who want sharper confidence, motivation, and sales performance, and anyone ready to rebuild self-esteem, self-image, and self-mastery. I also work with anger, fears, forgiveness, and grief, and with seekers who want their inner life to match what they know is possible.

Sessions run 60, 90, or 120 minutes on Zoom.

My Scope of Practice

My work centers on vocational and avocational self-improvement: helping you perform better in your career and in the pursuits you care about, change habits, build confidence, manage everyday stress, and grow in the direction you choose. Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool for that kind of change, and I practice it within clear professional boundaries.

I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, not a physician, psychologist, or licensed therapist. I do not diagnose or treat medical, dental, or mental health conditions, and my work is not a substitute for medical care or psychotherapy.

When a goal involves a medical or psychological concern, such as pain management, a diagnosed condition, or ongoing mental health treatment, I ask for a referral from your physician, dentist, or licensed mental health professional. With that referral, I work alongside your provider so your care stays coordinated. If something you bring to me falls outside my scope, I’ll tell you directly and help you find the right professional.
